Crochet Owl Bag Dispenser

Hi Everyone,

Do you have those plastic bags stuffed somewhere in the corner of your house where you won’t find it when required. OR Are they lying everywhere in the house.

Today we will see how to make a Bag Dispenser. It is an OWL. It is a plastic bag dispenser however you can use it for any other purpose. The size is adjustable, I will be mentioning in the pattern about it.

Notes :-

  • The pattern is worked bottom to top
  • Crochet terms are US terms
  • Using Two colors is optional, even one will work or more than two if you want to make it out of scrape yarns.

Materials :-

  • Yarn
  • Hook 6mm, 4.5mm
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Hair tie/ bow (optional)

Abbreviations :-

  • Chain – ch
  • Single Crochet – sc
  • Double crochet – dc
  • Treble crochet – trc
  • Magic circle – mc
  • slip stitch- slst
  • Stitch(s) – sts
  • dc3tog – dc in 3 sts together (decrease)

Pattern :-

  1. Make slip knot with your yarn. Take hair tie if you decide to you use else goto step (2). Ch1 and Work 30 sc around the hair tie and goto step (3). Join with slst.
  2. If not using a hair tie, simply chain 25 join to make a ring. Ch1 and Work 30 sc in this ring. Join with slst
  3. Ch2, Work 2dc in each sc from previous row. Join with slst.
  4. Ch2, Work 2dc in first st, (1dc in each of next 5 sts, 2dc in next st) repeat all around and join with slst.
  5. Ch2, work 1 dc in each st all around and join with slst. [I stopped increasing the circle here however you can continue to increase if you wish to make bigger size]
  6. Repeat step (5)
  7. Repeat step (5)
  8. With 4.5mm hook, ch2, (dc3tog, 1dc in next 4 sts) repeat all around. Join with slst.
  9. With 6mm hook, ch2, (3dc, 1dc in next 4 sts) repeat all around. Join with slst.
  10. Repeat step (5) [I have changed yarn color here, but it’s optional]
  11. Repeat step (5).
  12. Ch 27, dc in 3rd st from hook and in each st across. Fasten off. Sew the other end of this strap to the owl to form a loop to hang the owl.

If you have made bigger circle then step (8)&(9) counts will differ for you. The decrease and increase in these steps are to create the neck line for the owl head.

OR You can completely ignore this decrease-increase steps and just continue with step (5) till (11) or more. Once you fasten off. Take small length of yarn and weave it around the neck, pull slightly tight and tie knot. You can use contrasting color.

Left Eye :-

In mc, work 6 sc with dark color yarn. I took the body color. Slst to join.
Change the color and ch2, 2dc in each st, without joining continue working in the stitches around, work 1dc in each of the starting ch2 of this round
2dc in each st and work treble crochet on the last stitch

Fasten off. To get the pointed shape on the opposite side we need to do the right eye differently.

Right Eye :-

In mc, work 6 sc with dark color yarn. Slst to join.
Change the color and ch2, 2dc in each st, join with sl st
Ch2, 2dc in each st and slst to join
Ch4, 1 treble crochet in same st, 1dc in next, 1hdc in same, 1sc in next and slst in next. Fasten off.

Sew on both the eyes on the top part of the owl.

For the beak, use anyone of the color. Thread the needle and make a triangle in the center just below the eyes. Please check the image if not clear. Fasten off. Weave all the ends in.

Stuff the owl with plastic bags. Shape it little bit with hands. The owl is ready 🙂

Happy Crocheting!!!
