Crochet Textured Hat Baby to Adult

This is a very simple pattern with an interesting texture. It makes the plain boring beanie little interesting. All you need to know is front post treble crochet, double crochet and single crochet on edging.

For baby hat, I used less than 25gms of 4ply acrylic baby wool and 4mm hook

I will be using US terms in this pattern.

Abbreviations:

front post treble crochet – fptrc

double crochet – dc

single crochet – sc

slip stitch – slst

chain – ch

Note for new crocheters: if you want to see how to crochet above stitches, please see the chart here.

Pattern:

Round 1- ch 3, in 3rd ch from the hook crochet 12dc, join with slst into 1st dc

Round 2- ch3,1dc in same st, 2dc in each around, join with slst

Round 3- ch3,1dc in same st, (1dc in next st, 2dc in next st) repeat () all around and join with slst

Round 4- ch3,1dc in same st, (1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st) repeat () all around and join with slst

Round 5- ch3,1dc in same st, (1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st) repeat () all around and join with slst

For baby hat, you can stop increasing here and continue with further rounds to create the depth

For adult hat, continue to increase by increasing the count of 1dc sts like 4,5,…so on and then continue with below pattern

Round 6- ch2, 1fptrc in same st, (1dc in next st,1fptrc in next st) repeat () all around and join with slst

Round 7- ch2, 1dc in same st, (1fptrc in next st, 1dc in next st) repeat () all around and join with slst

Repeat round 6&7 till desired depth or height of the hat.

So basically you will make a round of 1fptrc and 1dc and then in next round you will crochet 1dc in 1fptrc of previous round and 1fptrc in 1dc of previous round… Hope this makes sense:)

Once you achieve the desired height, crochet a row of sc and finish off. Weave in the ends.

Beanie is ready!

For sizing of the hat refer the table below:

Happy Crocheting!!!
